I have always had a respect for metal as a material used to create art, and I find my inspiration coming from the idea of having a part to play in it's existence - from it's creation over millions of years - to the modern techniques that have evolved since the first humans discovered the potential of metal as a material for function and decorative art - and now, my small involvement in the process, the maker, who then hands it to the wearer, furthering its journey and appreciating it's past.
Having worked as a metal finisher in a Fine Art foundry for 20 years, I have gained experience in many different processes and techniques used to create art using various metals. I draw on this technical experience and knowledge when creating my own designs. Aesthetically I have always been drawn to and liked working on sculpture with clean lines and simple form. My designs, mainly using silver and copper, often use geometry and a degree of symbolism, giving a connection to the wearer.
Concrete symbols as a name reflects my ideology when it comes to my work - respect for metal as a material and it's permanence and adding to it's existence by creating wearable sculpture with meaning.
